2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball season opens in Aguascalientes

 

AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico April 18, 2019. - The 2019 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour season opens at the sand courts of the Isla de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico, from April 19 to 21.

 

Aguascalientes joined the prestigious Beach Volleyball NORCECA Tour last year, also as the opening event as part of the festivities of the traditional San Marcos Fair.

 

A total of sixteen teams per gender have registered for the Aguascalientes tournament, in which the Mexican duos of Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros in the male division, along with Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta in the women’s field are the number on seeded teams.

 

The 2019 season, marks the return to the NORCECA Tour of the Olympians and current Pan American champions Virgen and Ontiveros, who are hailing to finish in the top spots of the event.

 

United States presents two teams, Trevor Crabb/Tri Bourne and Stafford Slick/William Allen, ranked among the top four teams in the men’s division.  From Cuba, experienced player Sergio González, teams up with Luis Enrique Reyes In women, Revuelta and Orellana who finished fourth in the 2018 Aguascalientes tournament are joined by Diana Veldez and María José Quintero as Mexico’s second team. Also returning to la Isla de San Marcos, Mailen Deliz and Leila Martínez from Cuba second placed in the past edition.

 

Amanda Dowdy with Quiggle Corinne of the United States, are the second ranked of the event, joined by Falyn Fonimoana and Nicolette Martin as USA-B.

 

Another well-known name in NORCECA is Julie Gordon of Canada, teaming up with Shanice Marcelle; and Canada’s second team is Anna Dunn-Suen and Caleigh Cruickshank.

 

Pool-play starts at 10:00 (local time) on Friday at 10:00 am (local time) and the last match is scheduled to begin at 9:00 pm.
