Mexico Advances Directly to the Semifinals in Asunción 2025

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, August 19, 2025.- Mexico advanced directly to the semifinals of the men’s volleyball tournament at the II Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025, after dominating Pool A with three consecutive victories and no defeats. In their final group stage match, Mexico defeated Paraguay in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17), showcasing strength across all areas. With this result, the final Pool A standings were defined with Mexico in first place, followed by Colombia, Guatemala, and Paraguay. In the quarterfinals, Colombia will face Cuba and Guatemala will meet Argentina, while Paraguay will compete in classification matches for positions 5 to 8. The first set was marked by Mexico’s offensive power (12-9 in attacks), which managed to neutralize Paraguay’s blocking advantage (4-0). Eduardo Garza led Mexico’s offense, while José Gaete was the main scoring reference for the home team. More Español

Seven Undefeated Teams in the Women’s Division

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, August 18, 2025.- The Women’s Division of Beach Volleyball at the II Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025, held at the Pynandí Stadium of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, began with seven pairs that did not suffer defeat. With two wins in Pool A are Denisse Álvarez/Fiorella Núñez of Paraguay and Emma Donley/Portia Sherman of the United States. These two teams will face off on Tuesday, at 1:00 PM (local time). Paraguay defeated Nicaragua’s Nahima Silva/Norma Brenes 2-0 (21-11, 21-7) and Maia Najul/Marisa Abdala of Argentina 2-1 (22-24, 21-15, 15-11), in what was perhaps the best match of the day, while the United States also beat Argentina (18-21, 21-18, 15-11) and Nicaragua (21-14, 21-13).
