Antigua Barbuda comes up better than St. Vincent and the Grenadines

PHILLIPSBURG, St. Maarten – July 24, 2015 – Antigua and Barbuda defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) 3 sets to 1  (25- 11, 25- 22, 22- 25 and 25-18 ) in an  encounter which marked the start of day 2 action in the ECVA Junior Female Competition.

In a game where errors were rampant (Antigua and Barbuda 50 and St. Vincent and the Grenadine 51) it was the Antigua attack that made the deference between the two teams. They had 30 kills to SVG’s 20. The blocks were even at 1 while Antigua took advantage of the service points as well leading 15 to 5.

Antigua Barbuda scoring came from Morgen Halsted 11, Tyke Hawkins with 10 and Captain Tia Walker chipped in with 7.  SVG’s scoring was almost entirely a two-player affair with Shemel Browne 12 and Nhaga Barker 10

Cassius Franklyn - coach of the St. Vincent and Grenadines team could not find words to explain what happened. “There was no communication on the court and there was no teamwork. There were times when we executed as we ought to be then fell right back into old habits meanwhile the opponents were developing a rhythm and that was hard to break,” he explained

Coach of the Antigua team – Vanessa Burke had an air of contentment and commended her players. “I thought that they stuck to the game plan and kept focus throughout. At the point when we were down we reminded them to settle down and concentrate on what was practiced. In general the service was strong the passing was good and I can’t complain about the communication”, she said.
