Antigua and Barbuda take Group E Bronze

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia, August 10, 2017 - Antigua and Barbuda secured the bronze medal,  stopping St Kitts and Nevis 3-2( 24-26, 25-27, 25-20, 25-19, 15-9) in men’s  Group E of the NORCECA Zone of the (FIVB) World Championships qualification round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA), here at the Beausejour Indoor facility.

 

St Kitts and Nevis had shown early signs of taking the match, but faltered as Antigua and Barbuda, refocussed and got their passing and setting intact.

 

At the top of Antigua and Barbuda’s scoring were the Outside Hitter- Jamarie James and Opposite Hitter- Xavier Roberts, an Opposite Hitter, as the two had 20 points each. For St Kitts and Nevis, Outside Hitter- Shawn Seabrooks had 31 points.

 

Antigua and Barbuda won Attacks 70-59; Blocks 9-8, Service Aces 8-3 and was superior in errors, 101- 113.

 

Captain of Antigua and Barbuda, Olsen Joseph in evaluating his team’s final placing, confessed it was what they bargained for.

“It was not the bronze we came here for… We were expecting first … We lost out on a place in the final by 0.06 of point in the whole point system”, he said.

 

Joseph, on reflection blamed the early lost to Dominica for his team’s failure to make to the championship match.

 

St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica play in the gold medal match.
