NORCECA Tournament dedicated to the Mayor of Guatemala

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 26, 2010 – The NORCECA Girls’ Youth Championship will be dedicated in honor of Mr. Alvaro Arzu, Mayor of Guatemala City, it was announced during a press conference held at Clarion Hotel on Monday.

The Championship is dedicated to the Mayor of Guatemala City, Mr. Alvaro Arzu as recognition to the support he has given to Volleyball in the last national and international events held on Guatemalan soil.

The main table was formed by the Director of the Event, Ms. Marta Centeno, who is NORCECA and FIVB Vice President, Mr. Enrique Santis, President of the Executive Committee of Guatemalan Volleyball Federation and Dr. Roosevelt Comarazamy, press delegate of NORCECA.

Ms. Centeno explained that Guatemala was named as host of this important event four years ago and it means the opportunity for the young players under 18 years-old to compete against the powerhouses of the region. “It is a great honor for our country to have the chance to organize this event which awards one ticket to represent NORCECA at the first Youth Olympic Games and three spots in next year’s World Championship in Turkey.”

Asked about the expectative of the national selection, Mr. Enrique Santis, said that “we hope to defeat the rest of the Central American countries” adding that it has been a two-year process.

All the communication means will have access to information via the press conferences that will be organized following each match of the competitions as well as photos and stats dispatched by the press commission under the supervision of Dr. Roosevelt Comarazamy.
