Americans start with right foot in Guatemala


GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 9, 2010 – Top seeded Michael Bruning and Jason Wight of United States started with the right foot in the fourth stop of NORCECA Circuit.

 

Bruning and Wight dominated their rivals during the matches contested in the opening day of the tour. They first met Joseph Clercent and Dayne Williams of Saint Lucia winning in 28 minutes by score of 2-0 (21-11, 21-17). They followed with a victory against hosts Garrido/Recinos of GUA-1 by score of 21-9, 21-18 in 32 minutes.

 

Bruning, captain of the USA Team, said “our strength relies on our knowledge of each other and that was a key today for the victories.”

 

Cubans Kanell Piña and Sergio González defeated siblings Andy and Juan Luis Marin of Belice 2-0 (21-07, 21-04) and Wilson/Lewis of Jamaica 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) in a highly disputed match.

 

Jessie Lelliott and Benjamin Saxton of Canada also won easily against Baides/Serrano of Honduras (21-10, 21-6). The Canadian pair produced a show in their strong duel with Dominicans Yewddys Perez and German Recio, prevailing 2-0 (21-19, 21-18).

 

Villegas and Piskulich of Costa Rica advanced in the winners’ round with three-set victories over Vargas/Medrano ESA (16-21, 21-13, 15-11) and Puerto Ricans Irizarry/ Gil (15-21, 21-09, 20-18).
