Mexico wins Baja California Women’s International Cup, While Dominican Republic takes the Gold in the U-18 Category

 

TIJUANA, Mexico, April 14 2012 - Mexico Pre-Olympic Team was crowned as champions of the Baja California Women’s International Volleyball Cup after defeating the U20 Cuban team 3-2 (15-25, 25-21, 29-27-15-25, 15-11).

 

Cuba’s Yunieska Robles was the best scorer with 38 points but could not avoid the defeat of her side. She was followed by Dayamis Sánchez, who scored 20.

 

Mexico’s Seomara Sainz, elected MVP, finished with 23 points while Claudia Cecilia Ríos converted 15. The work of both players was the key to the victory for the team coached by Estanislao Vachino, who won its first international title with the Mexican squad.

 

The gold of the U-18 Category went to Dominican Republic , that also competed in the overall category finishing in third place. The he fourth and fifth positions were for the Junior and Youth Teams of Baja California.

 

Last year, in the overall category, Mexico finished with the bronze medal after defeating defending champions Dominican Republic while Argentina defeated Cuba that finished for the second year in a row with the silver medal.
