Organizers report on Pan Am Cups in Juarez and Peru
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, April 21, 2012 – The
Honorable Hector Murguía Lardizabal, President of the
Municipality of Ciudad Juarez, led a delegation from the host
city of the XI Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup that made an
official invitation to participate in the event during the
second day of meetings of the Executive Committee and Board of
Administration of Norceca Confederation.
The Women’s Pan American Cup is the main annual female
competition of the Norceca Confederation and is a qualifier for
the top six teams to the FIVB World Grand Prix of the following
year.
Murguía emphasized on the conditions of Ciudad Juarez as a 2.5
million population city with representation from all the states
of Mexico and two different cultures as the town is next to El
Paso, Texas in the United States.
He expressed that Ciudad Juarez is a northern Mexican city of
hard-working people considered as the seventh most secure city
in the country. He called the attention to the fact that more
than 200,000 people gathered together in one of the many parks
in town to celebrate and enjoy the festivities of Easter Sunday.
“Ciudad Juarez is waiting for the best women’s volleyball teams
of the continent to welcome them with open arms so they can
enjoy a good competition and also the warm hospitality of our
people,” Murguía said.
Leopoldo Canizales, coordinator of directors of the city,
accompanied by the treasurer Juan Salgado, made a report of the
current state of the organization of the twelve-team competition
to be held at Bachilleres and Universitarios Gymnasiums from
July 11-21. The report included a video showing the touristic
attractions of Ciudad Juarez.
He thanked the people from Norceca that attended the event last
year for assisting the organizing committee in order to
successfully conclude the competition. He mentioned specially
the president of the confederation Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and
vice presidents Marta Centeno de Sajche and Saul Castro Verdugo.
On the other hand, Juan Castro, President of the Peruvian
Volleyball Federation, made a presentation of the inaugural U-23
Women’s Pan American Cup to be held in the cities of Lima and
Iquitos from September 31 to October 10.
Twelve teams will take part in the competition with four
countries representing South America Confederation and eight
from Norceca Confederation.
The teams are Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Venezuela from CSV and
Canada, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and United
States plus the champions of Central America and Cazova from
Norceca.
He recalled that last year Peru held the FIVB Women’s Junior
World Championship and the First Women’s Junior Pan American Cup
and the organizing committee has accumulated the necessary
experience to succeed again with this event.
During the Saturday’s session the presidents of commissions of
Beach Volleyball, Sports Organization, Development, Refereeing,
Press, Marketing, Statistics and VIS, Legal and Medical made the
presentation of their activities in the past year. |
