Puerto Rico crushes Honduras in 49 minutes

TIJUANA, Mexico, April 30, 2012 – Puerto Rico trounced Honduras in three consecutive sets (25-4, 25-6, 25-4) in just 49 minutes for its second victory in Pool A of the NORCECA Women’s Olympic Qualification Tournament on Monday. Honduras dropped to 0-2.

Stephanie Enright and Sarai Alvarez each registered 13 points to top the scores of Puerto Rico with Enright totaling 8 winners with her booming serves.  Puerto Rico totaled 25 aces for the entire match.

David Aleman, coach of Puerto Rico, gave opportunity to play to every player on the roster in anticipation to the third and last match of the pool against Dominican Republic on Tuesday.

“We kept the same rhythm as yesterday and everyone got the chance to play and contribute,” Captain Vimarie Mojica of Puerto Rico said.

Catarine Leiva, the Captain of Honduras, said: “For the first two days we have faced teams with very strong serves and we couldn’t pass the way we would like to.”

“The key against Dominican Republic will be to avoid the unforced errors and to maintain the effective serves against a team with very good middle attack,” Aleman commented.

Matt Winkler, the coach of Honduras, said: “Three of our key players stayed back in Honduras because they couldn’t leave from their jobs but we are here to see where we are and to learn from the experience.”
