Argentina saw off Puerto Rico in Pool B

PACHUCA, México, June 11, 2014 -  Argentina came out winners against Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 28-26) in the nightcap of day one in Pool B of the XIII Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup being played at Multisport Carlos Martínez Balmori.

Emilce Sosa and the Captain Yamila Nizetich led the Argentinean offense each producing 10 tallies in a match where the winners were superior in the blocking department with an 11-4 difference and also better in the attacks.

Puerto Rican Captain Aurea Cruz scored big a usual with a match-high 16 points, the only player of her team with double figures, but didn’t look happy “because we failed too much and couldn’t win.”

Guillermo Orduna, Coach of Argentina: “An important match as it was the first and against a team with quality players and history, a fundamental rival and we were prepared for them. My players did in the court what we have planned.”

Yamila Nizetich, Captain of Argentina: “I believe we played two brilliant sets with a high percentage in attacks and despite the loss of focus in the third we were able to overcome the bad moment to win the match.”

Joe Mieles, Coach of Puerto Rico: “We tried our best to win the match, but we couldn’t as we made too many errors (26 to 21 by the rivals) and that cost us the sets. In the third we caught the rhythm a little but couldn’t close it. We congratulate the Argentineans, they have come better prepared than us.”
