Argentina starts with a victory over Saint Lucia in U23 Pan Am Cup Opener

GUANAJUATO, Mexico, September 5, 2016 – Argentina opened the actions of the III Men’s U23 Pan American Cup with a 3-0 victory against Saint Lucia by scores of  25-14, 25-10 and 25-8.

Nicolás Lazo finished as top scorer for Argentina with a total of 10 points, while Brian Melgarejo closed with 3 aces.

For Saint Lucia, Anferee Ferdinand and Augustin Faulkner finished with four points apiece.

“The team was in the match, very well concentrated, from the point zero until the last one we played. We didn’t know our opponents, we have never faced them before, but we kept our level of game all the time and close the match very well,” remarked Argentinean coach Camilo Soto.

Captain Matias Sanchez commented: “This was really the match we thought it was going to be. We did not know our opponent. Came out to play our best and I think the result finished in our favor”.”

“It was our first ever game at the Pan American Cup, there were some mistakes, but we keep very optimistic to get better and better in our next one as the tournament progresses,” said Darnell Eudoxie, captain of Saint Lucia.  

Meanwhile, Saint Lucian coach, Kendell Charlery remarked: “We got excited to be here, I mean we always knew Argentina is probably the top ranked team in the competition, we came out to do our best effort and there are a few things to walk on for the next game, but we are happy for the opportunity to play against a team like Argentina”.
