Argentina, champions of the Baja California Invitational Cup

 

   

TIJUANA, Mexico, April 5, 2015 - The Argentina U18 National Team conquered the 2015 edition of the Baja California Invitational Cup after beating the Baja California U20 Team in straight sets (25-16, 25-21 y 25-21).

 

The Argentineans won their second international title in less than one month, after conquering the U18 Pan American Cup in the city of Havana, Cuba.

 

Argentina started with Azul Benítez, Brenda Churin, Anahi Tosi, Candela Nota, María Corbalán, Agostina Beltramino and Valentina Gonzalez as libero. The South American team was coached by Mauro Silvestre and assisted by Gustavo Stricker.

 

Baja California Sub 20 went on the court with Karen Esquivel, Sashiko Sanay, Minerva Rodriguez, Gabriela Zazueta, Jocelyn Urias, Patricia Valle and Jocelyn Rodríguez as libero. The host team technical staff was directed by Josa Luis Martell and assisted by Luz María Virgen.

 

Baja U18 claim Bronze

The Baja California U18 team beat Baja U16 to clinch the bronze medal. The result was in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-22) Both teams prepare ahead to the National Junior Olympic Championships scheduled on May in Monterrey, Mexico.

 

The Semifinals

Semifinals were played to win 3 of 5 sets. Argentina won the first match of Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Baja U18. Scores were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-12.

 

In the second semifinal, the Baja U16 team faced the Baja U20 unit, the victory was for the U20 squad in four sets (25-17, 22-25, 25-21, 25-16).

 

During Sunday matches not only fans and family parents followed the matches at the High Performance Centre. Also representatives of Fresno State and Texas Christian University were present in Tijuana to scout and observe some players.
