New champions crowned at beach volleyball nationals
 

VANCOUVER, Canada, August 19, 2012 – Sam Schachter and Maverick Hatch as well as Taylor Pischke and Melissa Humana-Paredes are the new men’s and women’s Canadian champions in beach volleyball.

Pischke and Humana-Paredes defeated defending champions Heather Bansley and Liz Maloney in a thrilling final 21-16, 19-21, 21-19 on Sunday afternoon at the 2012 Volleyball Canada Beach Nationals which were held at Spanish Banks Beach.

Jamie Broder of Victoria and Kristina Valjas took the bronze 21-19, 17-21, 17-15 over Julie Rodrigue and Kacie MacTavish.

The men’s final was also a nail biter as Schachter and Hatch edged Chaim Schalk and Matt Zbyszewski 19-21, 21-16, 18-16.

In the bronze medal match, Christian Redmann and Ben Saxton defeated Sam Pedlow and Grant O’Gorman 21-15, 21-19.
