Two teams of Puerto Rico in women’s semifinals
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, August 25, 2012 – The two teams of Puerto
Rico qualified as the first semifinalists of the Mayaguez Beach
Volleyball Tournament, the seventh stop of the 2012 NORCECA
Circuit.
Third seeded Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin, winners of
the Boca Chica event this year, and Dariam Acevedo and Tatiana
Encarnacion secured spots in the final-four round of the
competition much to the delight of the home crowd.
Santiago/Yantin of Puerto Rico-A, who got a bye to the second
round, first defeated Victoria Cowley and Jacqueline Tait of
Canada-B by 2-0 (21-11, 21-16) and then won 22-20, 21-11 against
Martha Revuelta and Vanessa Virgen of Mexico.
Acevedo/Encarnacion first prevailed 21-16, 21-18 against Ingrid
Morales and Natalia Alfaro of Costa Rica, continued with a
21-13, 21-10 win over Deborah Constanzo and Karla Montilla of
Dominican Republic, and then overcame Kaila NG and Alexandra
Hudson of Canada-A 23-21, 21-18.
Revuelta/Virgen will play in the quarterfinals of the losers’
bracket against Cristin Alexander and Jenifer Bily of Cayman
Islands, who outdueled Constanzo/Montilla 21-16, 14-21, 16-14 in
the most exciting match on Saturday. NG/Hudson will meet
Morales/Alfaro, who won 21-9, 21-14 over Cowley/Tait.
