USA starts with a victory over Costa Rica at U18 Continental Championship

TIJUANA, Mexico, August 6 2012 — The United States started their participation at the Norceca Women’s U18 Continental Championship against Costa Rica in straight sets (25-15, 25-11, 25-10).

Carli Snyder and Courtney Schwan scored 12 and 11 points respectively for USA. Schwan also finished with seven aces while Costa Rican captain Angie Montero Alfaro registered 5.

“I am very happy with the opportunity to play this first International experience. We played well and now expect to play stronger against Guatemala,” said American captain Taylor Tashima.

“It was a good match, we had some problems, but despite the result we feel so glad to be playing for the first time at this stage,” Montero mentioned.

“I am happy the first match is over, Costa Rica did nice things in this match. We have a very young team and for tomorrow we have to be focus on our side,” USA coach Reed Sunahara remarked.

For coach Xavier Perales, Costa Rica had their continental debut. “This was our girls’ first contact at the Norceca level. We hope to advance as much as we can as part of this learning process,” he indicated.
