United States claims second victory

 

MAYAGÜEZ, Puerto Rico, August 30, 2011. - United States claimed its second victory  in Pool B at the Men’s NORCECA Championship after defeating Costa Rica in straight sets (25-16, 25-12, 25-9) on Tuesday.

 

Playing well and determined, USA beat Costa Rica, leaving for tomorrow the definition of

the first position in Pool B against Cuba. USA exceeded Costa Rica 10-2 in blocks and registers a 2-0 win-loss record.

 

Evan Patak scored 12 points and Ryan Millar 10 for the Americans. Richard Smith of Costa Rica was the best with 7 points.

 

USA’s captain, Clayton Stanley who still is a question mark for tomorrows decisive match said “my team put the pressure on Costa Rica and executed the game plan very well; Costa Rica did really good also.”

 

“It was a good experience to play against the United States, they are one of the best and we just did what we could” expressed Richard Smith, captain of Costa Rica.

 

For Alan Knipe, coach for USA, both teams invested in the match, “Costa Rica played correctly, but you can’t make up for not having experience; I believe the difference was in the physicality and not in knowing the game”.

 

Costarican coach, Cesar Salas said “this is of great experience for my team; USA’s powered service was what harmed us the most”.
