Australia and Ghana dominate Boys’ Pools B and D

 

NASSAU, Bahamas, July 19, 2017 – Australia and Ghana have joined Cyprus and England as pool winners of the boys’ beach volleyball competition of the Youth Commonwealth Games Bahamas 2017 after claiming strong victories under blue skies on Wednesday.

 

Mark Nikolaidis and James Takken of Australia breezed past Bahamas-B team of Aaron Springer and James Cleare 2-0 (21-9, 21-6) to finish atop Pool B, while Ghana’s Kevin Carboo and Eric Tsatsu won Pool D after a 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) victory over Daynte Stewart and Martin DeVaughn of Trinidad & Tobago.

 

New Zealand’s Tyran Gillepsie and Keegan Tai Joe subdued Jamaica’s Javarie James and Daunte Smith 2-0 (21-10, 21-10) in a decisive match for second place in Pool C while Papua New Guinea’s Damien Aisi and Tonnie Gima outdueled Trinidad & Tobago’s Stewart/DeVaughn 2-1 (21-13, 13-21, 15-9) for the second place in Pool D.

 

St Lucia’s Levi Leonce and Kyhim Remy were runners-up in Pool B after a 2-0 (21-10, 21-19) win over Springer/Cleare while South Africa’s Lukholo Jooste and Aviwe Mamfanya defeated Nathan Wert and Kyle Wilson of Bahamas-A for the second position in Pool A.

 

Thursday’s quarterfinals feature Cyprus vs New Zealand, Ghana vs St Lucia, England vs South Africa and Australia vs Papua New Guinea.
