Australia vs New Zealand for Girls’ Gold in Nassau

NASSAU, Bahamas, July 21, 2017 – Australians Rebecca Ingram and Carrie Van Rensburg will battle New Zealanders Ella Akkerman and Jasmine Pepi-Milton for the female gold medal of the beach volleyball tournament of the Youth Commonwealth Games Bahamas 2017 on Saturday.

The Aussies Ingram and Van Rensburg became the first finalists after their semifinal 2-0 (21-12, 21-11) victory over Rwanda’s Valentine Munezero and Penelope Musabyimana in 31 minutes of actions.

New Zealanders Akkerman and Pepi-Milton overcame Scotland’s Emma Waldie and Jennifer Lee 2-0 (21-12, 22-20) with Pepi-Milton scoring the last two points parlaying serve and spike for the victory in the second semifinal on Friday.

In the match for fifth place, Yasmine Kaashoek and Ellena Austin of England beat Vanuatu’s Rose Mary Moise and Luduine Tebeim 2-0 (21-10, 21-8), while Michele Moss and LaTavia Braynen of Bahamas overcame Trinidad & Tobago’s Tsyan Selvon and Ebony Williams 2-1 (15-21, 21-18, 15-10) in 51 minutes to finish seventh.

The first match of Friday saw Jamaica’s Abigail Thompson and Lisanne Roofe defeating St Lucia’s Tenayestigni Joseph and Tiah Arnold 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) for ninth position.

Positions 9-10: JAM d LCA 2-0 (21-16, 21-19). Positions 7-8: BAH d TTO 2-1 (15-21, 21-18, 15-10). Positions 5-6:  ENG d VAN 2-0 (21-10, 21-8).  Semifinals: AUS d RWA 2-0 (21-12, 21-11), NZL d SCO 2-0 (21-12, 22-20).
