Barbados, T&T win again, book finals spot

 

TACARIGUA, TRINIDAD, DECEMBER 7, 2013: Two players were  in double-figures as former winners, Barbados east past defending champions US Virgin Islands 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-22) in 58 minutes to reach the boys final of the Caribbean Zone Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Youth (Under-18) Championship.

 

For the Barbadians, Carlos Cyrus had a team-high 12 points, 11 of which were kills while Paul Doughty got ten, and captain Andriy Stapleton nine in the one-sided contest which saw the winners dominate on kills (33-7), blocks (4-2) and aces (5-3) while also committing one less error, 33. 

 

On the other side of the net, Senuah Benjamin and Kowaun Donadelle each got three points for USVI which remained on two points after a 2-3 opening loss to T&T and still in with a chance of getting to the final.

 

In the night's second match, host T&T rallied from 2-0 for the second straight match to win in five sets and reached its first ever final

This time, the victims were Jamaica, 21-25, 29-31, 25-22, 25-16, 15-13 in exactly two hour.

 

Once again, the start for T&T was captain who followed his 36 points output against USVI with 47 against Jamaica, 40 kills and six aces wile Nathaniel Noreiga added six, and Marcus Moore and Savion Burke, three point each.

 

For Jamaica, its captain and Nanjing Youth Olympics beach volleyball bound Rojey Hutchinson also led his team in scoring for the second match, with 25, 21 of which were kills while Mark Blade added 14, and the duo of Mickel Scott and Garcia Lewis, three each.

 

Overall, T&T was the better team in attack with 45 kills to Jamaica' 36 and 10-4 on aces while the losers, the taller of both teams were better on defence, 9-4 on blocks.

 

However, both T&T and Jamaica would not be too happy about the number of errors committed, 114 in total, with 56 by the winners and 58 by Jamaica.

 

With the win, T&T moved to six points while Jamaica has two points, the same as USVI.

 

On Saturday, USVI and Jamaica meet in the opening match followed by T&T and Barbados boys in a prelude to their gold medal clash on Sunday.
