Boca Chica welcomes beach players from 10 countries

 

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic, March 28, 2013 – The players from ten countries are ready to battle for the top honors in the double-gender Boca Chica Beach Volleyball Tournament presented by Presidente, the second stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit.

 

USA and Canada each will be represented by two teams per gender, while Puerto Rico has registered two men’s teams. Three women’s pairs and three men’s duos will take part to defend the colors of the Dominican Republic.

 

Teams will play under a pool-play format before advancing to a single-elimination bracket. Ten women’s tandems are divided in two pools while the thirteen men’s teams will compete in four groups.

 

The pool-play competition runs on Friday and Saturday with the quarterfinals, semifinals and medal matches scheduled on Sunday.

 

The event serves off on Friday morning at 9:00 with St Lucia’s Julian Bissette and Joseph Clercent playing against Hector Soto and Victor Rivera of Puerto Rico-B in the men’s tournament, while Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Canada-A battling Brittany Hochevar and Summer Ross of United States-B.

 

The preliminary enquiry and general technical meeting took place on Thursday evening at the Bellevue Resort Hotel chaired by Cristobal Marte Hoffiz, president of NORCECA Confederation and Ramon Garcia, president of the Dominican Republic National Federation.

Women’s pools: Pool A: Puerto Rico-A, Dominican Republic-A, Canada-B. Pool B: United States-A, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic-C. Pool C: Canada-A, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic-B. Pool D: Mexico, St Lucia, Puerto Rico-B, United States-B.
