Brayelin scores 23 in Dominican win over Peru

SANTA MARTA, Colombia, November 14, 2017 – The Dominican Republic claimed a 3-1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-17, 25-16) victory over Peru to remain unbeaten in the women’s volleyball tournament of the Bolivarian Games in Santa Marta on Tuesday.

It was the second victory in as many outings for a Dominican side that won in their debut in straight sets over Venezuela.

Brayelin Martinez led four Dominicans in double figures in the scores with 23 points, followed by Gaila Gonzalez and Jineiris Martínez, with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Natalia Martinez started the last two sets and contributed 11 points in the victory.

Angela Leyva was the best Peruvian with 17 points. Andrea Urrutia and Maguilaura Frías added 15 and 14 in the losing cause.

Each team scored with 14 blocks with Jineiris and Brayelin registering 6 and 4, respectively, for the winners who dominated in attacks 54-40.
