Brayelin scores 26 in Dominican victory in Japan

TOKYO, Japan, September 2, 2016 – Brayelin Martinez collected 26 points to lead the Dominican Republic to a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22) over Japan as part of the friendly series between the U23 Women’s Volleyball National Teams of both countries.

The towering Martínez, the MVP of the last FIVB U20 World Championship, had been used as libero for a few matches as part of a strategy to polish up her receiving abilities, but today was back to her normal duties and she delivered as expected.

Gaila Gonzalez and Jineiry Martinez finished with 17 and 10 points as the other two players of the winning side who had double digits in the scoring charts.

The Dominican Republic is visiting Japan attending a government official invitation in preparation for the U23 Women’s Pan American Cup to be held in Peru from September 17 to 26.

The previous day, the Dominican players and technical staff enjoyed a city tour around Tokyo visiting monuments and amusement parks.
