CAZOVA aim to develop beach volleyball

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 28, 2018 - CAZOVA held their annual Board meeting in NORCECA headquarters in the presence of President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz.  Apart for receiving and adoption the annual reports for the ZONAL activities for 2017 and the audited financial statement, the Zonal Development plan was discussed.  It was felt that the 14 countries in CAZOVA zone should concentrate more on beach volleyball development.

President Marte was concerned that most of the CAZOVA members are not accessing the beach volleyball rotating fund which is designated to assist teams to participate in the NORCECA Beach Tour. A proposal was made to have a training camp/workshop with National teams from each member to assist promote and develop players.  Also, on the drawing board was a CAZOVA Under-19 beach tour for both genders.

President Marte indicated that while he was satisfied that a lot of progress was made with the zonal members he still believes that there is great potential among the countries to do better.  He highlighted the fact that some leaders in the region and acting selfish and not allowing the full potential to be realized.

He was very satisfied with the great progress made by the Haiti national Federation seeing that they are participant al all levels with their national teams. Cayman Islands National Federation received his praised as they have successfully held over 10 NORCECA beach tour which is equivalent to one of FIVB 2-star event.

The major challenge identify was the large cost for national teams to travel to participate in the zonal events as in some cases it involves overnight stay while in transit depending on which country is hosting a tournament. Another challenge is that national federations depends on government funding of almost 100% of their activities and as such there are many delays and last-minute withdrawals from tournament when the grants are late or denied.

As part of the future development plan, it was identified that attention must be paid to development of programmes to assist National Federation board with the management and administration. The formulation of National Development and strategic plan will be part of the process with the hope that a more professionalized will be achieved.

The meeting ended with President Marte presentation of the NORCECA president’s report and activities which was well received by the board members.
