Caceres, Contreras fire Technocrats to gold medal

 

ST AUGUSTINE, Trinidad, June 2, 2013:  Dominican Republic duo, Jose Caceres and Elvin Contreras were once again the main scorers as Technocrats went one victory better than last year by beating Toco Youths in the Men’s Open Division final of the Second Caribbean Volleyball League at the University of the West Indies, Sports and Physical Educational Centre, St Augustine.

 

Caceres ended with 14 points, 11 of which were kills while Contreras had nine kills in his 11 points as Technocrats led by Sean Morrison coasted to a 25-20, 25-19, 25-22 triumph in 72 minutes.

 

For Toco Youths, which was on debut in the four-team competition, Puerto Rico’s Pablo Guzman had a team-high 12 points while St Lucian Joseph Clercent got nine and Colin Bernard five in the loss.

 

Earlier on in the bronze medal contest, Suriname’s Gino Naarden and Keven Sporkslede were both in double-figures as BIG South East Port-of-Spain ended on a high by sweeping past last year’s winner Glamorgan 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

 

Naarden tallied 14 points, all kills, while Sporkslede had 12 kills in his 13 points contribution for SEPoS which was without coach, Gideon Dickson due to work commitments.

 

Barbadian Fabian Cox, Akim Bushe and Alleyne London also chipped in with nine, eight and five points for SEPoS in the 72 minutes win.

 

On the other side of the net, USA’s Jordan Du Fault was the lone player in double-figures for Glamorgan, with 13 points while Bahamian Byron Ferguson (nine), Ryan Stewart (seven), Bahamian Prince’tanique Wilson (six) and Jamaica’s Dellan Brown (five) also chipped in, in the loser effort.
