Caguas remains undefeated in 11 outings

 

HUMACAO, Puerto Rico, March 2, 2017 – Caguas defeated Humacao 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22) at Emilio Huyke Gymnasium for their eleventh consecutive victory without losses in the Puerto Rican Women’s Volleyball Superior League.

 

The Criollas have only lost three sets over the course of the season thus far, with 8 victories in the minimum three sets and three wins needing four sets. Caguas is now 11-0 with 33 points, while Humacao dropped to fifth place with 7-5 and 17 points.

 

Stephanie Niemer and Annie Drews topped the winners with 21 and 18 points, respectively, while Mexican Andrea Rangel had 21 for Humacao.

 

In another match on Wednesday, Mayaguez beat hosts Aibonito 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 26-24) to spoil the debut for the local team of veteran Mexican Bibiana Candelas.

 

Shannon Torregrosa and Sarai Alvarez were the best scorers for Mayaguez with 14 and 12 points, respectively, while Kalei Mau had 10 points. Alexandra Oquendo had 14 points in the loss and Candelas had 8.

 

Mayaguez moved up to fourth place with 6-6 and 19 points, and Aibonito is 3-8 with 9 points.

 

In the last match played at Roberto Clemente Colisem, Juncos defeated San Juan in straight sets 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-20)

 

Paulino Prieto topped Juncos with 13 points and Dominican Gaila Gonzalez finished with 16 points in the losing effort.

 

Juncos is in second place with a 10-2 mark and 29 points, and San Juan fell down to 3-9 and 9 points.
