SOFIA, Bulgaria, September 28, 2021 - Canada
defeated Bahrain 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) and
Cuba earned a victory over Cameroon by no-show
3-0 (25-0, 25- 0, 25-0) in Pool H for positions
9-16 of the FIVB U21 Men's World Championship.
Both teams finished the Preliminary Round with a
win-loss record of 1-2 and out of contention for
the medals.
Samuel Cooper had 11 points as the best Canadian
in the victory over Bahrain, followed by Michael
Donovan and Christopher Byam with 8 points each.
In the Preliminary Round in Pool D, Canada won a
victory against Cameroon, and lost to Brazil 3-0
(25-22, 25-21, 25-18) and to Russia 3-1 (25-13,
25-22 , 21-25, 25-22).
Cooper scored 14 and Cole Ketrzynski added 10 on
the setback against Brazil, and Cooper had 21,
followed by Jackson Young with 13 and Ketrzynski
with 10 in the loss to Russia.
In Pool B, Poland beat Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 25-19,
18-25, 25-19) and Bulgaria beat them 3-0 (25-21,
25-22, 25-21). Marlon Yant scored 16 and José
Miguel Gutierrez and Alexei Ramírez finished
with 12 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss
to Poland. Yant had 13 and Gutiérrez 12 against
Bulgaria.
The Cubans rallied to beat Bahrain 3-1 (19-25,
25-20, 25-18, 25-21) with Ramírez and Gutiérrez
scoring 16 points each. |
