Canada cruise to victory over Portugal
MISSISSAUGA, Canada - June 7, 2013 - Canada won decisively over
Portugal (25-19, 25-19, 25-18) as the FIVB Men’s Volleyball
World League continued on Friday at the Hershey Centre here.
The two teams meet again on Saturday. Last week, Canada had one
win and one loss against the Dutch team.
Gavin Schmitt led Canada's offense with 14 points, which
included 10 spikes, 3 service aces and a block.
Argentina 3, United States 1
Argentina opened the 2013 FIVB World League with a hard-fought
3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24) victory over the United States
on Friday at Koch Arena in Wichita. The teams will play again on
Saturday at the same venue.
Argentina’s Pablo Bengolea led all scorers on Friday with 16
points on 15 kills and one ace. Sebastian Sole added 12 points
on eight kills and four blocks. Tony Ciarelli led the United
States with 11 points, including nine attacks.
Serbia 3, Cuba 1
Serbia beat Cuba in four sets (25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20) in
the first match of the World League’s Pool B in Havana on
Friday. The Ciudad Deportiva Coliseum was sold out as the hosts
faced the current European champions.
Aleksandar Atanasijevic led Serbia with 22 points while Raydel
Fundora and Yordan Bisset each had 14 points for Cuba. |
