Canada dominates Chile but don’t advance

LIMA, Peru, June 21, 2017 – Canada overpowered Chile 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-9) to finish with a 3-2 record and 14 points in Pool B of the XVI Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup by Movistar at Eduardo Dibos Coliseum on Wednesday.

The big difference in the score card was not enough to grant Canada the final spot in the quarterfinals, one that went to Cuba based on the point-ratio difference.

Both teams finished with identical record but Cuba’s better balance in points scored and allowed (1.075 to 1.055) gave them the pass.

Michaela Reesor and Shainah Joseph each registered 14 points as top scorers for Canada, followed by Alissa Coulter with 12. Catalina Melo was the main offensive player for the losing side with 11 points.

Canada outblocked Chile 9-1 with Marisa Field and Lucille Charuk accounting for 4 apiece. The winners held a 44-22 advantage in attacks.
