Canada gets first win

TOKYO, Japan, July 28, 2021 – Canada claimed its first victory at the men’s volleyball tournament of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after defeating Iran in straight sets 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-22) on Wednesday.

The Canadians are now at 1-2 in Pool A, while the Iranians suffered their first loss after two wins.

The winners out-blocked the losers 10-5 and committed only 14 errors to 21 by the Iranians who led in aces 6-4.

John Gordon Perrin and Nicholas Hoag led Canada with 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Joseph Sclater contributed 11 of his own. Iran’s Amir Ghafour finished with 13 points in the losing effort.
