Canada’s Glagau and Sorra win two tough matches

VARADERO, Cuba, May 6, 2022 – Canada’s Emma Glagau and Ruby Sorra won Pool B of the Varadero Beach Volleyball Tournament after grabbing two thrilling three-set victories in day one of the competition.

The Canadian duo first defeated compatriots Anna Licht and Anna Feore 2-1 (21-11, 20-22, 15-13) and continued with a 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 15-13) over Mexico’s Atenas Gutierrez and María Quintero.

In Pool A, the Cubans Leila Martinez and Lidy Echeverria crushed El Salvador’s Yvonne Soler and Laura Molina 2-0 (21-5, 21-7) who had won against Amber Bennett and Cristina Almeida of U.S. Virgin Islands by scores of 2-0 (22-20, 21-8).

In Pool C, Cubans Amanda Kindelan and Dayi Zerqueira won their two matches of Friday. They began with a 2-1 (15-21, 21-18, 15-12) victory against Julibeth Payano and Jeneiry Rosario of Dominican Republic and finished with a 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) win against Mexico’s Abril Flores and Esperanza Albarran.

In Pool D, Americans Iya Lindhal and Alexandra Wheeler claimed an easy 2-0 (21-13, 21-12) over Guatemala’s Natalia Girón and Laura Quiñones who earlier on Friday defeated Puerto Rico’s Adriana Nieves and Stephanie Rondon 2-1 (22-20, 17-21, 15-12).
