TURTLE BEACH, Tobago, November 21, 2015 – The two Canadian
women’s teams taking part in the Tobago Beach Volleyball
Tournament, the final event of the 2015 NORCECA Circuit, will
face each other in one of Sunday’s semifinals.
Melissa Humana and Taylor Pischke will challenge compatriots
Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas in one of the final-four
matches while the other semifinal will see USA’s Lauren Fendrick
and Brooke Sweat going against Cuba’s Lianma Flores and Leila
Martinez.
Humana/Pischke, second in Pool D, after losing to
Flores/Martinez 2-0 (21-12, 21-18) early on Saturday, advanced
to the semifinals following a 2-1 (21-14, 22-24, 15-13)
mouth-watering victory over Pool B winners Jeniffer Kessy and
Emily Day of USA-B in 56 minutes.
Broder/Valjas, winners of Pool B, were impressive in their 2-0
(21-11, 21-17) victory over Cubans Yanileidys Sanchez and
Lidianny Echevarría.
Fendrick/Sweat, the top team in Pool A, cruised to a 2-0 (21-10,
21-12) victory against Costa Rica’s Yuliana González and Eugenia
Ramírez in just 27 minutes, while Flores/Martínez needed three
sets to outduel Claudia Rios and Gloria Santoyo of Mexico-B 2-1
(16-21, 21-17, 15-8) in 47 minutes.
