Canadians Binstock and Schachter victorious at home

NORTH BAY, Canada, July 13, 2014 – Canadians Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter stormed past Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erick Haddock to claim their first gold medal of the year in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit with a 21-11, 21-12 victory on Sunday.

Binstock and Schachter relied on their strong and high blocking game to dominate Rodríguez and Haddock who were seeking their second title of the year.

It was the third medal of the season for the Canadian team added to their bronze and silver medals in Manzanillo and Huixquilucan, Mexico, respectively. The silver medal for the Puerto Ricans was their fifth podium of the year.

“We never get the opportunity to play at home so we had an extra motivation,” Binstock said after the award ceremony. “We have been together for a full season now and the chemistry was the difference because at this level everybody is good. Now we have to keep it going.”

Rodríguez/Haddock advanced into the final match with an easy win 21-14, 21-17 over Nick Tramble and James Drost of United States-A.
