Canadians Dearing and Schachter crowned men’s champions in Punta Cana

PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, April 17, 2022 – Canadians Daniel Dearing and Sam Schachter won the men’s title at the Punta Cana Qualification Tournament to the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships on Sunday afternoon.

 

Dearing and Schachter defeated Nicaraguans Ruben Mora and Denis López 2-0 (22-20, 21-14) in 39 minutes of exciting actions from both sides.

 

Both finalists were already qualified to the 2022 FIVB Beach Volleyball Championships in Rome, Italy from June 7 to 19.

 

The third place went to the Dominican Republic’s team of Oscar Martínez and Hayering de Jesus due to ankle injury of Costa Rican player Sebastian Valenciano who had Daniel Dyner as his partner.

 

Earlier on Sunday, Mora and Lopez defeated Dyner/Valenciano 2-0 (21-9, 21-10) in 29 minutes while Dearing and Schachter beat Martinez/De Jesus 2-0 (21-8, 21-11) in 28 minutes.

 

The men’s action started with tough duels in the quarterfinals where Dyner/Valenciano edged Marc Lomeli and Daniel Samuelson of U.S. Virgin Islands 2-1 (21-17, 18-21, 15-12) in 50 minutes while Martínez/De Jesús outplayed Joel Theodore and Kareem Thomas of Trinidad & Tobago 2-1 (21-18, 18-21, 15-4) in 49 minutes.
