Canadians Humana and Pischke cop Tobago gold

 

COURLAND, Tobago, November 16, 2014 - Canada-A pair, Melissa Humana and Taylor Pischke captured the women’s title by outdueling Cubans Lianma Flores and Leila Martinez in the  tenth and final NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit at the scenic Turtle Beach, Black Rock Heritage Park.

 

Humana and Pischke, using clever attacks and never-say-die attitude on defence triumphed 21-17, 19-21, 15-7.

 

Commenting on their victory, the Canadian women who also won the fourth leg on the tour in Manzanillo, Mexico said they were just elated to get the victory and join their men’s team at the top of the podium.

 

Humana added, “We had an amazing weekend of competition. We played very well as a team and worked hard for each other and at the end of it we are satisfied with the outcome.”

 

In the semifinals, Humana and  Pischke, ousted Mexicans Bibiana Candelas and Martha Revuelta, who were going after their third straight win on the tour, 21-18, 26-24 while Flores and Martinez, who won previously on home soil in the seventh leg, halted three-time tour winners this season, USA-A duo Lane Carico and Kimberly McGiven-Dicello 18-21, 21-19, 18-16.

 

Candelas and Revuelta ended their involvement on a positive note after outplaying Carico and McGiven-Dicelllo 21-18, 22-20 for the bronze.
