Canadians Saxton & Schalk qualify to main draw in Vienna

VIENNA, Austria, August 1, 2017 – Canadians Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk advanced to the main draw of the FIVB Men’s Beach Volleyball World Championship with a 3-0 record in Pool L.

Saxton/Schalk won a 52-minute affair between undefeated pairs with Austria’s Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst 21-19, 18-21, 15-13.

Cubans Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez, United States’ Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena and Theodore Brunner and Casey Patterson are undefeated at 2-0 and will complete their pool play matches on Wednesday.

Qualified to the main draw are also:

United States’ Jacob Gibb and Taylor Crabb also finished with a 2-1 mark in Pool G after losing a 53-minute battle to Poland’s Losiak/Kantor the pool winners at 3-0 by scores of 21-17, 21-23, 18-16.

Canadians Sam Pedlow and Sam Schachter lost to Eemacora/Pritauz of Austria 21-11, 18-21, 15-11 to end with 2-1 record in Pool I.

Mexicans Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros defeated Brazilians Evandro and Andre 2-1 (21-19. 16-21, 15-10) to conclude Pool D with 2-1 record.
