Chile and Mexico to contend for Gold Medal

 

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 24, 2017 – Mexico, host country of U19 Boys’ Pan American Cup will face Chile in the final for the tournament´s title.

 

Both, Mexico and Chile classified to the FIVB Boys’ U19 World Championship to be played in Bahrain.

 

Chile claimed the spot after Mexico defeated Colombia 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 29-31 and 25-19) in one hour and 45 minutes.

 

Raymond Stephens topped with 23 points while Diego González Castaneda finished with 22. Miguel Sarabia scored 15, David Hernández 12, and Axel Tellez tallied 10 por the local team.

 

Top scorers for Colombia were Oliver Murillo and Carlos Llanos, with 16 points apiece, while captain Raul Rivas registered 11.

 

Captain of Mexico, Jesus Carlos Flores:”The main goal was to classify to the world championship and now in the final we have to win it. Colombia was tough opponent but we had our weapons to finish the match.”

 

Captain of Colombia, Raul Rivas: “Congratulations to Mexico. We played hard and gave our best in the third set but it was not enough”.

Coach of México, Gabriela Alarcón: “We are so glad because we had already qualified to the world championship, but now we have a plus in the chance of winning the Crown at home and we hope so.”

 

Coach of Colombia, Carlos Osorio: “Fortunately we could solve the situation in a very tight set, but we delayed to get into rhythm. The lack of exposure and competitive preparation made us fall short along with the boys pressure.”
