Chile beat Dominican Republic in Day One of Men’s Tournament

SANTA MARTA, Colombia, November 20, 2017 – Chile beat Dominican Republic in straight sets 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-18) in day one of the men’s volleyball tournament of the Bolivarian Games on Sunday.

Gabriel Araya scored four blocks and added four aces as the South American side outscored the Caribbean team 11-4 in the blocking category and 7-5 in the aces department.

Gianluca Borelli and Araya led Chile with 13 and 10 points, respectively, while Richi Paulino had a match’high 14 points for the Dominican squad.

The Chilean side committed only 6 unforced errors compared to an astonishing 30 by the defeated team.

In the other matches of Sunday, Ecuador beat Bolivia 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-17), Venezuela edged outplayed Peru 3-1 (29-27, 25-19, 23-25, 25-13) and Colombia beat Panama 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-20).
