Chile gets off on the right foot against Peru

 

MONTERREY, Mexico, March 20 2017 – Chile got off on the right foot at the U19 Boys’ Pan American Cup after by defeating South American neighbor Peru 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) on Monday.

 

Vicente Mardones topped with 14 points for Chile. He also aced four times, while his teammates Vicente Ibarra and Esteban Mülchi scored 10 units apiece.

 

For Peru, captain Konrad Linder, finished as best scorer with 11 points. Chile dominated in blocks 11-2 and 4-0 y services.

 

Captain of Peru Konrad Linder: “We tried to be keep calm and to avoid mistakes as we got on the court. For us this is a great chance as our first time in a Pan American Cup”.

 

Captain of Chile Joaquin León: “We are glad. Happy for this. First match is always difficult and so it is to win in straight sets against an opponent like Peru.”

 

Coach of Peru, Edwin Jimenez: “Congratulations to Chile for this victory and their effort. We tried by all means to do things better, but we couldn’t. However this is just the beginning and we will try to correct those mistakes for our next match”.

 

Coach of Chile, Ivan Villarreal: “The beginning is always complicated, and it is more when you play against a rival you always face in South American competitions. However every match is a new one and at this age-group level emotions play a big role”
