Chile to face Dominican Republic for seventh place

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, May 11, 2017.- Chile will face Dominican Republic for the seventh place of the U20 Women’s Pan American Cup after beating Costa Rica 3-0 (25-15, 25-8, 25-19) at San Jose, Costa Rica on Thursday night.

Chile swept the home team with overwhelming advantage of 35-14 in spiking, 8-1 margin in the blocking category and 6-4 margin in aces. Chile committed 23 errors and Costa Rica finished with 26.

Beatriz Novoa and Mikaella Brendel of Chile topped all scorers with eight points apiece. Also from Chile, Catalina Agurto del Rio and Paulina Peruga registered 7 and 6 points respectively. On Costa Rica’s side, Tamara Espinoza scored 5 points.

Seventh place match between Chile and Dominican Republic is scheduled for Friday.

Eduardo Guillaume, Chile’s Head Coach: “It was important to play doing the things we know how to do well; I think our plan was well executed. We won well and everyone had a chance to play, we end motivated to face tomorrows big opponent and I know I will be using all my players”.

Mario Romero, Costa Rica’s Head Coach: “Nobody likes to loose, the differences and conditions are obvious, but we competed well and gave our best. Today, the girls had difficulties to get into rhythm. I’m satisfied that my team and I were up to the challenge of playing this Cup, we have to work a lot to improve and to be more competitive. If at least one of these players reaches the senior team, I will be satisfied”.
