Chile upsets Dominican Republic at Mazara Cup

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, June 30, 2018 – Chile defeated host Dominican Republic 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 26-24) in a close match at Horacio –Chichí- Mazara Invitational Men’s Volleyball Cup in Santo Domingo on Saturday.

Both teams are now at 1-1 with the Dominicans totaling 6 points and Chile with 4.

Dusan Bonacic and Simon Guerra had 16 and 15 points, respectively, as the best Chilean scorers in the match.

Elvis Contreras and José Cáceres each had 11 points for the Dominican side despite starting only the last two sets of the match. Wilfrido Hernández charted 10 points.

The Dominicans led in attacks 48-43 but committed 41 errors to 35 by the Chileans who also led in blocks 9-5. Both teams scored five aces for the match.
