Colima leads Mexican Volleyball League
COLIMA, Mexico, February 5, 2014 – The Mexican Volleyball League
was inaugurated in Colima on January 18 in the presence of HE
Mario Anguiano, Governor of the State of Colima, his wife Alma
Delia Arreola-Anguiano and Jesus Perales, president of the
Mexican Volleyball Federation.
During the opening ceremony at the Jose María Morelos
Auditorium, a plaque was unveiled to commemorate the five titles
won by the team of Colima at the Federation Cup from 2009 to
2013.
The authorities were accompanied by David Ballesteros, General
Director of the Sport Institute of Colima.
Governor Anguiano and his wife, together with the local crowd,
enthusiastically supported the home team “Cocoteros of Colima”
in their match against IMSS Cedrus Hidalgo during the fourth
date of the tournament.
The home team, leader of the competition with 33 points, claimed
the victory in a well contested match by scores of 25-21, 22-25,
30-28, 31-29 much to the delight of the cheering local fans.
The defending champions were led by Samuel Córdova, Roberto
Rincón, Edgar Herrera and Ignacio Ramírez, with international
experience, and the Colima natives Aldo Miramontes, Irving
González, Edgar Barajas, Ricardo Galindo and the libero Oscar
Ramos.
Colima has been traditionally recognized as the Mexican city
where volleyball top the list as the most popular sport. |
