Colombia defeats Jamaica in Boys’ U19 Pan Am Cup debut


MONTERREY, Mexico, March 21, 2017.- Colombia opened its participation at the U19 Boys Pan Am Cup with a straight-set victory over Jamaica on Tuesday. The 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-12) win lasted only one hour and three minute.


Wing-spiker Diego Valderrama scored 12 points and Colombian captain Raul Rivas added 11 in the victory. For Jamaica, Safon Manning closed with 9. Colombia dominated Jamaica in blocks 8-5.


Jovan Thomas, Capitan of Jamaica: “We fought hard in the second set, we played better and we are glad for the way the fans have supported us.”


Raul Rivas, Captain of Colombia: “We have a goal that is to get a ticket to the World Championship and we want to make our dream to come true.”


Steve Davis, Coach of Jamaica: “Our gUys are learning here. I like the support of the fans, we appreciate that, I thing now we are ´Jamexicans´.”


Carlos Osorio, Coach of Colombia: “For some of our players this is their first international exposure and for everybody the first Pan Am Cup outside South America, so they could be on the court playing with no pressure.”
