Colombia wins U-20 Copa Latina
LIMA, Peru, May 12, 2013 – Colombia won the Women’s Junior
Volleyball Copa Latina with a convincing straight-set victory
over Dominican Republic 25-17, 25-11, 25-15 at Eduardo Dibos
Coliseum on Sunday.
In the match for third place, Mexico defeated Peru in straight
sets 25-21, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18.
All four teams are qualified to the FIVB Women’s U-20 World
Championship to be played in Czech Republic.
The solid attacks of Danna Escobar made the difference in the
first set when the Dominicans were unable to stop the opposite
player of the South American side.
In the second set, Colombia dominated from start to finish with
strategic serves and powerful blocking.
The Dominicans experienced problems with their reception during
the third set and the match finished with a block by Ivonne
Montano on Dominican Angelica Hinojosa.
Diana Arrechea was the top scorer of Colombia with 14 points,
followed by Melissa Rangel and Escobar with 13 and 12
respectively. Pamela Soriano finished with 12 for the defeated
team and Galia Gonzalez had 10. |
