Copa Claro in full action in Dominican Republic

 

SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic, November 16, 2018 – Padre Fantino of La Vega and Saint David of Santiago have qualified to the main draw of the Cibao stage of 2018 Copa Claro of School Volleyball of Dominican Republic an event taking place at Fernando Valerio Pavilion of Santiago.

 

Playing in Group K, Padre Fantino advanced to the next round following a 2-0 victory over O & M Hostos Puerto Plata while Saint David got their ticket after a 2-0 win over Cequisa of Santiago.

 

Padre Fantino topped the Group after dispatching Saint David 2-0.

 

In Pool L of Cibao, Renacimiento of San Francisco de Macoris beat De La Salle of Santiago 2-0 and Santa Rosa de Lima of Puerto Plata won 2-0 against Leonardo da Vinci of Santiago 2-1.

 

In the Cibao stage a total of 12 schools from Santiago, La Vega, Puerto Plata and San Francisco de Macoris are divided into four pools of four teams competing in the first round under a round-robin format.

 

The competition, under the school platform of Claro, is sponsored also by Samsung, Gatorade, Seguros Universal, Coca-Cola and Dasani.

 

In the Santo Domingo stage, being contested at the Volleyball Pavilion of Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the teams qualified to the main draw are the following: Luis Muñoz Rivera and Cardenal Sancha in Pool A; Saint Nicholas and New Horizons in Pool B; Notre Dame and Delin in Pool C, Community for Learning and Ergos in Pool G and Miduho and San Judas Tadeo in Pool H.

 

The Santo Domingo stage gets into action on Saturday to define the rest of the teams qualified to the main draw. In this stage a total of 40 teams from Santo Domingo, La Romana and Punta Cana are competing also in groups of four teams.

 

The teams who advance to the main draw are those qualified in the top two positions of each pool.

 

Luis Muñoz Rivera is the defending champion after defeating San Nicolas of La Romana in the great final of last year.
