Costa Rica Undefeated champion U19

 

Managua, November 2, 2019.- Costa Rica was crowned undefeated champion of the 13th U19 Central American Men's Volleyball Championship by beating 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) to Honduras, which remained with the bronze medal.

 

For Costa Rica it is its second consecutive title, after winning in 2017 in Panama, but now has seven championships, four of them consecutively between 1982 and 2003.

 

Dowshel Smith contributed 22 points, 18 in attack and 3 in block, while Harold Rodriguez was 14, four of them in block and three in service. For Honduras, Alejandro Lobo was left with 11 points.

 

“We came with the challenge of getting the title undefeated, we made it, here we are. The team is solid, we prepare a lot, we are tired, but we had a great attitude and that is what keeps you up, ”said Captain Smith.

 

"We wanted to repeat the title achieved two years ago, maybe not as bluntly as we did, but today the whole team played and kept the same level, they show why they are here, why I brought them," said coach Alberto White.

 

“I think we did a great job, regardless of whether the other teams were doing well or not, there is a lot of talent in this Costa Rica, the team looked great,” added Blanco.

Guatemala and Honduras on the podium

Guatemala, on the other hand, secured the silver medal by beating 3-1 (25-21, 26-28, 25-8, 25-20) to a fierce El Salvador who was without victories in the tournament.

Francisco Gamboa, with 21 points, was the best in Guatemala, José Villagrán and Leonardo Molina contributed 13 each. With 10 points from Gustavo Ortiz, for El Salvador.

Guatemala adds its third silver medal followed, after being champion in 2013, Honduras for its part, reached three three medals, one silver in 2005, one bronze in 2015 and now bronze.

Belize was in fourth place by beating 3-1 (25-20, 32-30, 25-20, 25-23) to Nicaragua, which was in fifth, with El Salvador in sixth.
