Costa Rica and number one teams of ESA and GUA are in Semifinals

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 2, 2021.- Ángel Williams/Ximena Núñez (CRC 1),  Kianny Araya/Ana Fallas (CRC 2), Mirella González/Dana Funes (ESA 1) and Paola Alvarado/Laura Quiñonez (GUA 1) advanced into semifinals of the XIII U21 Central American Beach Volleyball Championship.

 

Costa Rica advanced directly into semifinals after winning the respective pools, while El Salvador and Guatemala came out winners in quarterfinals. 

 

In the first semifinal, Araya/Fallas (CRC 2) will play González/Funes (ESA 1), followed by Williams/Núñez (CRC 1) against Alvarado/Quiñolez (GUA 1).

 

Kianny Araya and Ana Fallas (CRC 2) were the first to move forward, working hard especially in the second set, defeating Guatemala’s number 1 team of Paola Alvarado and Laura Quiñónez 2-0 (21-14, 23-21) for first place in pool B. On the other hand Ángel Williams and Ximena Núñez (CRC 1)  dominated Pool C, winning their last pool-play match to Yohali Lugo/Kadderli Salazar (NCA 2) 2-0 (21-11, 21-10).

 

González and Funes of El Salvador started their day defeating Yohali Lugo/Kadderli Salazar (NCA 2) 2-0 (21-11, 21-10) finishing second in pool C, and then in the quarterfinal round they won 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) against Joselyn Muñoz/Ana Arévalo (GUA 2).

 

Guatemala’s Alvarado/Quiñónez, second in pool B, advanced to the semifinals easily beating Grace Zeledon/Nahima Silva (NCA 1) by 2-0 (21-8, 21-15).

 

Semifinals and medal matches are scheduled for Sunday.
