Costa Rica debuts with straight set victory
SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, November 12, 2013.-Costa Rica beat
Honduras in straight sets 27-25, 25-20, 25-23 in their debut at
the 15th Boy’s Central American Championship taking place at El
Salvador
Both team’s performance was similar as they maintained the
scores close. Costa Rica held advantage in attacks by 28-25 and
in aces by 5-3; in the blocking category both teams scored 6
points.
With 10 points, Meyson Garcia was the best scorer for Costa
Rica, followed by Cesar Gomez with 9 points. Honduras’ William
Thompson scored 10 points for the team’s top performance.
“It’s a good start for us, we were able to find their mistakes,
analyze them and execute in our favor; I hope we can do the same
against the other teams. Winning a first match is comforting, we
are very pleased” expressed captain Andres Araya of Costa Rica.
Captain Jonathan Massu of Honduras said “it was a tight match,
we were always close in the score but we had too many mistakes.
We only lost a battle, not the war; we’ll keep our good energy”.
“The team did well; it’s a good beginning for us and mainly with
a straight win earning 5 valuable points. Always a first match
is a difficult one and even more with a long trip like we had”
indicated coach Mauricio Prado of Costa Rica.
Honduras’ coach Rony Martinez said “I always feel proud of my
boys. As I said before, we’re missing to players from our
starting lineup and the team is adjusting; the tournament is
still young”. |
