Costa Rica hands Nicaragua its first loss

 

PANAMA CITY, Panama, July 27, 2016 – Costa Rica broke the undefeated record of Nicaragua with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-12) victory at the U23 Men’s Central American Championship taking place in Panama City at José “Beto” Remón Gymnasium.

 

With the victory, Costa Rica takes the lead atop of the standings tied with Nicaragua with both teams at 2-1 in win-loss, but with the Costa Ricans with 11 points to only 7 for the Nicaraguans.

 

Costa Rica spread out the attack as Cesar Gómez topped the list with 11 points, followed by Walter Serrano and Marco Fernández with9 points each. For Nicaragua, Christofer Lazo made 9 points, six in attacks and two from blocking.

 

Costa Rica was far superior in the blocking category (12-4), while in the reception Nicaragua was better (16-8).
