Cristo Rey moves closer to the crown in Santo Domingo

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, May 3, 2018 – Cristo Rey moved to one victory from winning the title of the Women’s National District Volleyball Tournament after a 3-1 victory over Caribeñas on Wednesday.

Geraldine González led four players of Cristo Rey in double digits with 27 points in the victory 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18 to improve to a 2-1 mark in the best-of-five final series.

Marianne Fersola contributed 15 points, with four blocks, Marifranchi Rodríguez tallied 11 with five blocks and Madeline Guillen chipped in with 10 points for the winners.

Prisilla Rivera and Lisvel Eve finished with 18 and 16 points, respectively, for Caribeñas.

The defense at the net proved to be the key for the victory as Cristo Rey dominated the blocking category 13-4 and also held the advantage in attacks 55-47. Caribeñas led in aces 5-4.

The fourth contest of the series is scheduled on Friday at Ricardo Arias Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center in Santo Domingo.
