Cuba beat Trinidad & Tobago

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, July 10, 2018 – Cuba defeated Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 (25-15, 30-28, 25-19) to finish with a 2-1 record and 8 points in Pool B of the Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup on Tuesday.

 

Puerto Rico (2-0, 8 points) will play United States (1-1, 6 points) later today to define the positions of the pool.

 

Regla Gracia registered 15 points to lead the Cuban side followed by the captain Sulian Matienzo with 12, including two blocks and three aces. Diaris Pérez and Laura Suarez contributed 10 and 9, respectively, in the victory.

 

Krystke Esdelle and Sinead Jack were the top scorers for Trinidad & Tobago with 15 and 12 points.

 

Wilfredo Robinson, coach of Cuba: We had a bad outing against Puerto Rico but last night the girls found their game against the United States. Today they defended well.

 

Francisco Cruz, coach of Trinidad & Tobago: “I didn’t like the first set. They were self-pressed by the uniform of Cuba. They played better in the second and third sets with good defense and blocking. I can’t ask for more knowing the conditions they are going through.
